It's been a while since I've posted here, but I wanted to share with you a project I did in BGC (Philippines). </p><p style="text-align: left;">This space was really meant to be an executive lounge - a space for meetings, and more like a gathering place for our family. We each have our own office and thought this was a good, central location to work together and meet clients once or twice a week.</p><p style="text-align: center;"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50985342543_e1e72c2f2b_z.jpg" /></p><p style="text-align: center;">The reception served as a holding place for deliveries so I kept it small. The entire (silver) shelving system is a privacy screen and was really meant to be full of potted plants. I opted to do that instead of a solid wall so the space doesn't seem too closed off. Right now it just has some decor so it’s low maintenance while nobody is using the space.</p><p style="text-align: center;"><br /></p><div style="text-align: center;"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50986056521_fc8d10f25c_z.jpg" /></div><p style="text-align: center;">You are greeted with an open plan, with workstations for 11 people and 4 guests. We also have a daybed for lounging, which in my case served as my son's corner when I used to work out of this space. </p><p style="text-align: center;"><br /></p><p style="text-align: center;"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50999237991_a84930f9b1_z.jpg" /></p><div style="text-align: center;">The entire floor area is in marble, so to help with the acoustics we used lots of wooden furniture, upholstered seats, and an area rug. Roller shades are also being installed this week. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><p style="text-align: center;"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50986053636_42a545a164_z.jpg" /></p><p style="text-align: center;">These glass tables and partitions help to make the space feel lighter. Office spaces tend to feel so cluttered because of all the stations and partitions, so I knew from the start that I didn’t want any solid walls. For storage, we have a credenza behind the 2 executive tables, the overhead cabinets and the shelving system in front. </p><span><a name='more'></a></span><p style="text-align: center;"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50989199943_7aaa557c60_b.jpg" /></p><p style="text-align: center;"><img id="yui_3_11_0_3_1614764466708_358" src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50985348363_7ba431e2b3_z.jpg" style="text-align: left;" /></p><p style="text-align: center;"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50989200013_c70bbfb24f_o.jpg" /></p><p style="text-align: center;"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50986163532_5975ba95d3_z.jpg" /></p><p style="text-align: center;">Greenery, upholstered furniture and wooden consoles also help to add some warmth to the space, especially since we’re enveloped in mirrors, glass and marble. Another trick I used is to incorporate tinted mirrors- it’s less intense than regular mirrors and instead adds a warm glow around the room.</p><p style="text-align: center;"><br /></p><p style="text-align: center;"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50986046801_50e7c6bb74_z.jpg" /></p><p style="text-align: center;">For the entry, conference room and pantry, we have tinted glass sliding doors to prevent anyone from bumping into them, and it also frames the conference room nicely.</p><p style="text-align: center;"><br /></p><p style="text-align: center;"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50989902201_273a80d30f_b.jpg" /></p><p style="text-align: center;">This was my workstation! I miss this chair. You can order the office and guest chairs through <a href="https://gussy.design/shop-home">Gussy</a>. </p><p style="text-align: center;"><br /></p><p style="text-align: center;"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50989971337_f2a121dbef_z.jpg" /></p><p style="text-align: center;">The door to the left of the staff desk leads to the pantry, and the other door behind the tinted glass panel is the restroom (not a lot of units have their own private restrooms in this building). </p><p style="text-align: center;"><br /></p><p style="text-align: center;"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50986160602_3ba2e0ba4a_z.jpg" /></p><p style="text-align: center;"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50986051596_bcafc62982_z.jpg" /></p><p style="text-align: center;">This shelving system is functional- all the closed parts are "push to open" cubbies that you can hide office supplies in. </p><p style="text-align: center;"><br /></p><p style="text-align: center;"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50998538493_0236fba68e_z.jpg" /></p><p style="text-align: center;">The lovely, <i>green</i> view! </p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">☙</span></p><div style="text-align: center;"><p><span style="font-family: inherit;">Photos, interior design & architecture by Raleene Cabrera</span></p><p><span style="font-family: inherit;">This 95 sqm, fully-furnished unit is for sale. We were blessed with 70ºF weather, which was perfect for everyone to come out and celebrate! I celebrated with a few coworkers over dinner and drinks and it was SO great seeing some familiar faces after 8 months in quarantine! </p><p style="text-align: center;"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50580413423_66ef4c5876_z.jpg" /></p><p style="text-align: center;">It was the perfect day to wear just a t-shirt and I thought I would dress it up using my Chanel 19, which I finally got a month ago after lusting over it since January! I thought I would never hop on to the <i>dad shoes </i>trend until I saw these during a closing sale at the Balenciaga boutique in Manila- the mix of champagne gold, silver and black was really cool and I thought it would be a great addition to my all-black shoe collection. I've been wanting the ivory version but these really pop against an all-black outfit without being a dirt magnet. I'm actually obsessed with these and they've been my casual, everyday pair in the Philippines, especially when most establishments require you to dip your shoes into a foot bath (1:10 bleach solution) which I would never subject any of my other shoes to. I walk a lot more in NYC so these are also more comfortable compared to leather boots. </p><p style="text-align: center;">I'm excited to do a more in-depth review of the bag but I think you'll be seeing them in a lot more outfit posts so that's all for now! xx </p><p style="text-align: center;"><br /></p>Raleenehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08484460741281716304noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5706137056294723342.post-80852901785740618182020-11-04T07:57:00.001+08:002020-11-04T07:57:11.783+08:00New hair, finally!<p style="text-align: center;"> <img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50563966558_209ff7cc77_b.jpg" style="text-align: left;" /></p><p style="text-align: center;"><img id="yui_3_11_0_3_1604447449669_357" src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50563967418_db9903f650_b.jpg" /></p><p style="text-align: center;">Finally got my hair cut and colored after 9 months! Nowhere to go and scared of the rising COVID numbers in New York so self-portraits at home is all I've got. </p><p style="text-align: center;">The guys at <a href="http://www.ariahairsalon.com/">Aria Hair Salon</a> are the best at doing balayage and whenever I have other people cut or color my hair I instantly regret it! This place might be a drive if you're from the city but it's totally worth it. Their prices are great and they truly know how to handle all hair types (this is a real review and I just wanted to share!). xx </p>Raleenehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08484460741281716304noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5706137056294723342.post-306829328941519412020-10-26T13:05:00.000+08:002020-10-26T13:05:00.953+08:00Fall 2020 Uniform<p style="text-align: center;"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50531581522_475f7d9bd0_z.jpg" /></p><p style="text-align: center;"><img id="yui_3_11_0_3_1603686882456_362" src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50531582527_4af2989d51_o.jpg" /></p><span><a name='more'></a></span><p style="text-align: center;"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50531426886_2b2780d8b0_o.jpg" /></p><p style="text-align: center;"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50531581657_8d07e4bab9_z.jpg" /></p><p style="text-align: center;"><img id="yui_3_11_0_3_1603686911477_355" src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50530702728_8c72e3ab8c_o.jpg" /></p><p style="text-align: center;">Been itching to buy basic ankle boots for 3 years now and I finally found the perfect pair! Although it's an inch taller than what I initially wanted, I do love the silhouette. Now that I don't walk too many blocks and stay at home and inside the office more, I don't mind the heel height. As always, posting on here before they get beat up for the memz. </p><p style="text-align: center;">Finally back in New York and so happy to be wearing normal clothes. I am staying indoors now and still paranoid about being out so I don't think I'll be taking too many photos. Happy just to see family and some work mates! </p><p style="text-align: center;"><br /></p>Raleenehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08484460741281716304noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5706137056294723342.post-46087983664703870322020-09-07T23:40:00.002+08:002020-09-08T23:57:36.011+08:00LDW vibes<p style="text-align: center;"> <img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50315230178_7cd598b692_b.jpg" /><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50316104686_eb8da7839b_z.jpg" /></p><span><a name='more'></a></span><p style="text-align: center;"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50316162671_abf95bf6ee_z.jpg" style="text-align: left;" /><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50316162831_c5e99cd52f_o.jpg" style="text-align: left;" /></p><p style="text-align: center;">Is it warm enough? </p><p style="text-align: center;"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50316339557_07b16c1cc2_o.jpg" style="text-align: left;" /></p><p style="text-align: center;">Carmine's cute co-ords and my black top are market finds from our last trip to Bali. But we found this secret garden and he took really pretty photos of me, I had to forgive him. 😋</p><p style="text-align: center;"><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50316109956_1f807bee05_z.jpg" /><img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50316213621_2c21c1c388_z.jpg" /></p><p style="text-align: center;">We finally got out of the house and spent some time as a family at my favorite spot for Labor Day weekend. This place asks all guests to take a mandatory rapid test before entering so we all felt a lot safer being there. It was a quick trip but I'm so happy we finally got to take Carmine out after 6 months in quarantine. I'm really a mom now because it makes me the happiest seeing him enjoy everything outdoors! </p><p style="text-align: center;"> Savoring the warm weather before I fly out to New York again. Felt amazing to have only vegan food and had a chance to do some good grounding! Enjoyed a relaxing massage under the stars, had the best raw vegan pecan pie and laughed at Carmine nonstop for being scared of the ducks (he was more afraid of the noises they made). Wish I could live here! </p><p style="text-align: center;">🖤</p>Raleenehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08484460741281716304noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5706137056294723342.post-72347692541345912632020-05-29T00:17:00.001+08:002020-05-29T00:17:31.248+08:00Just me and the boys! <div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Yesterday was my first time in 6 years shooting interiors again! I also designed 5 areas of this home at <a href="https://www.kathykuohome.com/designbar">Kathy Kuo Designs</a> with furniture from Kathy Kuo Home. I customized some of the pieces since our client requested for warm-toned leathers and finishes only. Here's what it looked like on the schematic board before seeing everything come to life (floor plans not shown): </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>master suite </i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
All of the designs I do rarely reflect my own personal taste, but my job is to always be guided by what our clients love when curating their furniture, decor and architectural finishes. My own home is a big, white box with white furniture because I spend all day designing and decorating for others, so I love coming home to a clean slate. I am lucky that I get to shop and make decisions for others and I never do the same thing for two clients- this creative process is the fun part of design, which makes up 30% of the work. The rest is just a rolling snowball of stress - sourcing, budgets, ordering, logistics, even styling is a load of work! But the best part is seeing everything come together and knowing your client instantly feels right at home with the environment you've created for them. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<a href="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/48463285321_69ce1b807c_o.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="800" data-original-width="600" src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/48463285321_69ce1b807c_o.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My last post was over a year ago and I'm coming out of Blogger retirement with no makeup, no shoes, and a baby on one hand. Wow. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have an hour to write and have my fingers crossed that this becomes a meaningful post, so if you're reading this, I hope you get to the end without getting bored. </div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I made my blog private for 2 weeks. I thought real hard about whether I wanted to blog again or if I should delete the blog forever. As I get older I'm starting to treasure my privacy. Living a quiet life in America is seriously a luxury and my life in Manila before moving was a bit public thanks to this blog- I was also very vocal and active on social media so everything I did was documented. My priorities totally shifted when I moved overseas and that's why my elopement was a secret and my entire pregnancy was a secret (even to my family and friends). I just realized that there's a huge chunk of my life that made me happy and I'm a bit sad that I don't have snippets of those on here for me to look back on. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Remember when Instagram wasn't a thing and I used to post meaningless photos on here? I miss that. I remember going to so many parties and gigs, with blurry photos and no captions to post, and whenever I look at those photos on here I immediately get sent back into time, feeling the same things I did when I took those photos. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I enjoyed my life so much, I still do, but I am extremely grateful that I was not pressured by my parents to do any of the things I did during those years I slowly held back from blogging: I got my masters, got married, got a dog and had a baby- not because I was pressured to. I know I am privileged in that sense, believe me, but I will not hold back from sharing anything because I also think I don't pretend like my life is perfect! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So I'm back on here because I really want to keep this online diary alive and post some happy bits of my life, while sharing a bit of what I learn each day! 😊I'm also kind of sick of Instagram to be honest, and I'm craving for an old-school platform with more meaningful posts sans ads masked as relatable "lifestyle photos." I'm not trying to sell anyone anything (except maybe my design services), so I might as well post what I truly feel good about! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'm going to post about my pregnancy/birth story next time because it's going to be a long one... Here's some photos that have made me happy instead. Thanks for reading, it's good to be back!!! </div>

Currently blogging at this home office I've set up, sans makeup. Most of these photos are shot on iPhone. I am now making it a point to bring my fancy camera everywhere for... better blog content. *gasp*</div>

I'm obviously obsessed. Sorry guys, you're seeing these babies until it gets warmer. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I was drawn to them in the store but initially didn't want to get them, fearing that they would clash with some outfits. I visited Saks in hopes to find another pair appropriate for the harsh winter but I didn't like anything else so I just had to get them. SO glad I bit the bullet- they match most of my outfits because I obviously wear a lot of black! I thought the bees mixed with the stars were too much at first, but they're a historic symbol for Gucci from the '70s. I love that you can take out the strap with pearls as well. The rubber lug sole is so solid and is good for the icky slush covering the streets of NYC and they're crazy warm. My sister even wore them and said that she understood why I kept wearing them - they're so comfortable! AAAH I love these boots! </div>

Maca and baobab coconut yogurt - this was an awesome alternative to my usual breakfast (vegan protein powder + powdered peanut butter + banana + unsweetened almond milk). So excited to share this new service to fellow New Yorkers! <u><a href="https://www.vynelife.com/">Vyne</a></u> serves chef-crafted, plant-based meals through a delivery service to do the tedious meal prepping involved in healthy eating for you. This is perfect for those of you wanting to kickstart the new year by eating clean! They offer a variety of delicious plant-based meals catered to your dietary needs. I've been on a plant-based diet for months to combat my PCOS (more on that on another post-it's worked wonders for my symptoms!) so I was so happy when they reached out to me to have me try and share their delivery service to you guys. You can have breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks delivered together or separately (I opted for 1 breakfast and 6 lunches) so it's quick and healthy without sacrificing taste!<br /><br />Vyne's culinary team is committed to creating enjoyment in healthy living with unique, tasty dishes. Plants don't have to mean protein-less. Vyne creates ever-changing menus to help you power through the day. They delivered to my office in NYC but they can also deliver your meals to your home or favorite fitness studio in the city! </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I truly loved their meals and the only comment I have is that I wish they gave more sauce for each meal. Other than that I would totally consider ordering weekly lunches from Vyne so I don't have to think about my office lunches every day. It's a lot cheaper than ordering for delivery- breakfast is $8.95, mains are $12.95 and snacks $5.95. I used to have a lunch budget of $16 so Vyne's prices just make a lot of sense to me. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Vegan/plant-based or not, give them a try! You can order a la carte or create a meal plan.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

My no-foundation look, just with falsies. For my brows I just used some MAC brow gel with a few strokes of K-Palette Real <u><a href="https://www.amazon.com/CUORE-K-Palette-Lasting-Eyebrow-Grayish/dp/B0017ALIG2/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1512276911&sr=8-1&keywords=k+palette+real+lasting+eyebrow">Lasting Eyebrow</a></u> in grayish brown. Riz and I planned a trip to Bryant Park to check out the food stalls and cute Christmas items for sale today and I got a chance to rock these <u><a href="http://esqido.com/">Esqido Mink Lashes</a></u> in the style "<u><a href="https://esqido.com/products/celestial">Celestial</a></u>". I love that they are full yet lightweight, plus with the thin band I didn't have to line my eyes or hide it with some eyeshadow! My face has this tendency to look overdone as soon as I put on some eyeliner or eye shadow and I feel like it makes me look older than I am so it's great that these lashes were super high quality and looked soft paired with natural makeup. Esqido also sent me some <u><a href="https://esqido.com/products/companion-eyelash-glue">eyelash glue</a></u> which didn't sting and didn't wear off the entire night. I absolutely hate it when fake lashes start peeling off (it happened during my <u><a href="http://www.raleene.com/2016/11/bad-wedding-makeup.html">wedding makeup disaster</a></u>) so thankfully their lash glue was reliable. It was SO easy to peel off, which was a bonus! </div>

Unlike the Philippines, where Christmas season starts on September, I've really only started feeling the holiday cheer this month. I can't wait for the holidays this year since we're having my entire family plus cousins over at our home. It's going to be a busy month for us! After almost a year we're still putting in work on the house- painting, installing lights and cleaning up just to name a few. I'm also starting another job this week at another interior design + furniture company. I've freelanced for them and I really like the office, everyone's friendly and super helpful! I'm lucky my sister is here to help me watch over Pablo while I'm at work. My mother's also coming this week so she's helping me out with the house. I feel blessed that my family can come over every time I need their help with things. I haven't really been homesick thanks to them visiting + my biannual visits to the Philippines. </div>

Sidenote- I'm so glad I can finally blog about skin care and makeup again since my cystic acne's cleared up (no thanks to PCOS). Still deciding whether or not it's worth blogging about- my journey to clear skin over these past few months has been tough. </div>

My sister and I met with Christine (her high school batch mate) at the Chelsea Market and proceeded to do a mini photo walk on the <u><a href="http://www.thehighline.org/visit">High Line</a></u> as I wanted to capture the colors of fall before it got too cold. I always meet up with friends on this side of Manhattan since I love the shops, visiting the Whitney and catching up while strolling along these converted train tracks- it's an interesting park with all the cool industrial elements expected of NYC, plus there are always new sculptures around. Sometimes Central Park is just too overwhelming and the rest of the parks are always too noisy and crowded, so seeing empty seats and uncrowded photo-worthy backdrops on the High Line is a better option. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
As I've said in the previous post, my new camera is really making me want to take photos again even if it is extremely heavy to lug around and makes me look like a total tourist. I have 3 years' worth of unpublished photos from my Sony A5100 and Lumix GM5 just because I was never happy with the quality, framing (small cameras made me lazy) and color quality. My A5100 was great but my lens and the crop was just so limiting. Being accustomed to a DSLR for studio/portrait work, a full-frame camera just forces me to really use a viewfinder to frame things well & encourages me to fix settings manually. I could go on, but in the end my camera doesn't matter and I would still tell people that the best camera to use is the one you have. It just feels great to shoot RAW again, getting crisp images that I can eventually apply a grain to on post, haha!!</div>

I am also in love with the way it smells, I wish they had the scent in a bottle! After almost a year of living in the 'burbs, it was our first time to hike at the <u><a href="http://sandspointpreserveconservancy.org/">Sands Point Park & Preserve</a></u>. It was so close to our house and I regret not going sooner. It would have been the perfect spot for summer hikes as they have a lot of trails to choose from and the beach was a lovely site, too. We practiced Pablo's walk, pausing whenever he pulled on the leash and applying lessons we learned from his trainer. He also got to enjoy 30 minutes off-leash and played around the beach with his new friend Charlie. I try not to leave him off-leash unsupervised even in our own backyard since he's a puppy who loves to eat everything on the ground. As much as we wanted to stay longer to explore the trails, it was a bit too cold and we were underdressed. Living by the water does make the cold more brutal thanks to the wind. I can't wait to take more friends and family there. It's so peaceful and it makes me love living here more. I enjoyed so many mountains in the Philippines but it always took us 2-6 hours to drive to a new trail- through a combination of driving, bus, jeep and tricycle. </div>

I am more motivated to post ever since I got a new camera! These photos are unfiltered and make me really happy that I bit the bullet and converted to an all-Sony gear. I am currently using the Sony A7Rii with a 35mm lens. </div>

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: center;">
Meet Pablo, my son! </div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
Today he's 7 months and 85 pounds. Because he's a <u><a href="http://www.akc.org/dog-breeds/cane-corso/">Cane Corso</a></u> (Italian Mastiff), we're expecting him to weigh about 140-160 lbs (his dad weighed 160). It's always been a dream of mine to own a large dog and I've always wanted a Great Dane or a Doberman (thanks to the <u><a href="https://img.buzzfeed.com/buzzfeed-static/static/2014-08/21/18/enhanced/webdr07/anigif_enhanced-26239-1408660994-11.gif?downsize=715:*&output-format=auto&output-quality=auto">Solider</a></u> video). After playing with a Doberman pup at a pet shop, I realized I wasn't in love with the high energy, lean breed. I noticed only one puppy was well-behaved and it was a Cane Corso! I immediately remembered that the same breed was on Game of Thrones as Ramsay Bolton's pet... which eventually ate him to his death (LOL). I love how they look ferocious and majestic even if they're clingy and affectionate towards family members while also being great guard dogs. </div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
I looked for a reputable breeder and found one in Upstate New York which was a bit over an hour of a drive from us. I wanted to find a dog with a good temperament and his parents were show dogs (champions) who behaved really well around kids and other animals. When we met him at 6 months I was a bit shocked because he was just a few inches shy from being as big as Darie's full-grown pit bull! I couldn't leave the breeder's home without taking him since he was just sooo affectionate and was immediately drawn to us. We also met his mum and grandpa, who were both well-behaved and quiet while we were petting him. </div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
We always had dogs growing up in the Philippines but we always had help raising them at home so I wasn't prepared to have one at all. My first concern was potty training. I am a total germaphobe and him having accidents inside the house was my biggest concern. We decided to crate train him, taking him out every 2 hours and telling him to "go potty" each time we went outside. Within a week, he only had 2 accidents until he got the hang of it. Cane Corsos are extremely trainable- one thing I considered before getting a dog. Other accidents happened because it was my fault, failing to recognize that him looking outside the glass door while whining was a signal that he wanted to do his business outside. Crate training was also helpful for us since it helped us create a schedule around him eating, going outside and leaving him there while we were out. On days Darie and I work, he's crated for a few hours in between 2 walks per day. That's another thing to consider when getting a dog in New York- if you have an office job, be prepared to spend $25 to $60 (city rate) for every 30 minutes of dog walkers' fees. He gets to eat, play and relieve himself while we're away and we get to watch him from our security cameras so we feel safe about entrusting him with someone else. </div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
Having a bigger dog means more expenses - he eats about 100 pounds of dog food a month, which is about $100. We also had to take him to the vet a couple of times and the regular visits and medicine (not emergencies) aren't covered by pet insurance. We had to get insurance just because a bigger dog can cost you $6,000 to $10,000 for emergencies- and we want to avoid that! We don't need groomers for him, so that saves us about $80 per visit. We instead invested on a dog trainer and he gets obedience training 4 times a month. Having a Cane Corso means you will get blamed for anything once he gets into fights with other dogs so obedience training is a must. Pablo almost never barks and he also never play bites, but you can never tell with breeds who are natural guard dogs. He only barks when we're all inside the house and he hears someone knocking or coming through the door. Obedience training and teaching him our own commands has been very helpful. After a month he's learned sit, stay, come, no, OK (signal to eat, go out the door or get the treat), potty, among others. Corsi are extremely smart but stubborn, so we've been firm with teaching him commands or else he can control us with his size. So far he's only destroyed a remote and a pair of glasses. Thankfully he hasn't chewed or gone on top of the furniture since we reprimanded him when he tried to do it. As for trying to escape our yard, it's happened once but he never went past the front yard (some say this breed doesn't really stray). We're planning to have our fences redone (another $$$) just so he can't try to jump out to chase someone coming near our property. </div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
So far I'm in love with this breed but of course there are some negatives to owning one. I've gotten used to having a rag or towel nearby just because water, food bits and drool are always hanging from his mouth after eating or drinking! Before it got cold he was trained to eat and drink outside by the deck so it wasn't as messy. Now that he eats inside his bowls are laid on top of a mat since water goes all over. He also takes massive poops (LOL) and having our own yard has made it easier since we built him a kennel with sand and we just scoop out the waste when he's done. Corsi can shed a bit. They're supposed to shed twice a year and this week I've just been vacuuming after him. I'm glad we have hardwood floors so cleanup is easy. As for space, make sure you have enough once you get a Corso since they are massive and Pablo loves to play catch inside to burn off energy when it gets too cold outside. They're a medium energy dog but my sister thinks he's too high energy since he requires a 15 to 20-minute walk each day (I don't mind). To get him tired I usually run drills with him inside to work his brain for 5-10 minutes. </div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
I wish I grew up raising a dog myself, as these are some things I wish I had known before getting Pablo. I love him to death - he is so handsome and attracts everyone on the street, he is super affectionate and stays beside me while I do everything, and he follows commands. Dogs are meant to please people, so a well-trained one should not be aggressive! There are responsible dog owners in the Philippines but sadly a lot of dogs are still chained or left outside to be taken care of by helpers so a lot of dogs bite and show aggression. I'm happy I get to train my dog so I know he's great with people but I also know he's going to keep our home safe at night. </div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

If you want a dog, I hope this post helps you think about the responsibilities before getting one. Getting one from a breeder helped me get a dog with an awesome temperament, and a healthy one unlike those from pet shops getting their pups from puppy mills. Research on the history of the breed so you're prepared for possible health issues and their energy levels. Getting one from the shelter is great as well. Rescues just take more patience and time since they can come with certain habits that you'd have to correct. The adoption process can take a while as well since the shelter will have to check if you have the right home for a dog- they shouldn't be caged 24/7! Whatever pet you get, they are going to be family- that's why I'm making sure Pablo's years with us are the best he'll ever get! </div>

We were to end the night with the last call for shuttles back to Roscoff at 3 AM... Darie kept forcing Steven and I to play a few songs on that piano and two songs became a room full of people just singing their hearts out to random songs, throwing flowers and standing on tables. <img src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4077/35247825430_03139509d4_b.jpg" /></div>
<a name='more'></a>I've been looking forward to this trip ever since I started working this year because one of my good friends from Cebu, Mia, was getting married to Jacques. I met Jacques before moving to New York City in 2014 so I never got to see them together much. Before Mia met him, we both swore off being in serious relationships because boys sucked (ha!). Mia and I became good friends because we were both more serious about our careers than most of the men we've ever dated (sorry, not sorry). We collaborated on <u><a href="http://www.raleene.com/2012/06/summer-rush-hippie-luxe.html">some</a></u> <u><a href="http://www.raleene.com/2013/03/made-in-paradise.html">things</a></u> and partied a lot together in Cebu and Manila. We met through Friendster back in high school (that was normal back then) and I don't know, we just clicked! She's one of the most positive, hardworking people I know. She's also a real-life #BossLady.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
After Mia and I agreed to never take men seriously in 2014, I got married to Darie in 2015 while Mia got engaged shortly after. Jacques told Darie we were invited to their wedding during our own "wedding party" in the Philippines. We didn't expect for it to be in France! I was so excited as soon as I got the official invite because Darie and I have never been to France. We packed a bunch of non-black outfits and prepared for a full week of fun, food, music and drinking! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<img src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4236/35635461245_6ef270ccf1_z.jpg" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We stayed at <u><a href="http://www.hotel-brittany.com/en/">Hotel Le Brittany & Spa</a></u> in Roscoff, one of the nicest hotels in the area and home to a Michelin-star restaurant. This was our view during breakfast! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

Darie and I found it bizarre that people left their boats there during low tide - won't that damage the boats? I guess not. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
On the first day we drove to <span style="background-color: white; font-family: "georgia"; font-size: 13.5px;">Saint-Pol-de-Léon for a welcoming party for all the guests. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
We picked Steven up along the way. He's been my friend since kinder! We were classmates until high school in Cebu and he's one of the best musicians I know. He also performed at our wedding party and we planned to jam together with Jacques (he plays the sax) during this wedding. Steven is a professional wedding guest- he is the biggest extrovert I know and he can play anything on the piano- the perfect formula for getting invited to every wedding. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: "lato";"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "lato";"><span style="background-color: white;">Wanted something very airy, bright and open for our home so we opted for a semi-open plan. Added a breakfast nook that peeked through the kitchen a bit so diners could still interact with whoever occupied the living area. We kept in mind that family would come over most of the time and while we can't have more than 6 in the dining area, we could create a layout that allowed conversation even when people were situated in different parts of the communal areas. </span></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I created an all-white canvas through walls and flooring since the house isn't too big and white really opens up any space. Black walls by the entrance and the exterior/sidings (not shown) create the perfect contrast. We're not big fans of color so an achromatic scheme through the architectural elements and furniture was a natural choice. Plants and lighting provide the perfect warmth and cozy touch to an otherwise stark space. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Hope you liked this sneak peek! </div>

<a name='more'></a><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
~WARNING: negative post containing photos of just my face~</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
My makeup was the only thing I cared about during wedding planning- aside from my dress of course. I have worked as a makeup artist for shoots back in college but I never called myself a professional. I made sure that my work was always clean and flawless in photos. IT NEVER MELTED. I have worked with dozens of makeup artists for different shoots, mostly in Manila and some in Cebu, and my makeup never melted even under the heat of the painful Cebu sun. I posed under the sun for hours for a <u><a href="https://c1.staticflickr.com/9/8064/8237312132_ed99d43ec0_o.jpg">photo on a yacht</a></u> and got sunburned the next day! But my makeup was amazing even in iPhone photos. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Now this deserves a post, not only because of the level of unprofessionalism, but because I still can't believe in the lack of skill of this makeup artist I chose...For the day I planned and spent my own money on. The day I chose to document on video and photo. The day I walked down the aisle with a frown on my face.<br />
<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img src="https://c2.staticflickr.com/6/5814/31004151345_69d3b33637_z.jpg" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This was how the makeup looked up close on that first photo. It had already started to melt. I HAD NO IDEA, because I was busy the entire time and I just discovered this when my photographer handed me RAW photos last month. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img src="https://c2.staticflickr.com/6/5835/31004071215_dd6a8a5551_b.jpg" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The makeup artist is behind me, "retouching" my makeup and fixing my hair. She did not attempt to fix my makeup at this point. I snapped this iPhone photo and put aside my phone, but I should've zoomed in...</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img src="https://c2.staticflickr.com/6/5609/22825684188_da80ed8b4c_o.jpg" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I could've complained at this point but I was in a rush to take more photos and I forgot to zoom in and take a look at my face up close! I trusted her with my face (who wouldn't with the amount of money she charged + her flawless Instagram page?! ). Wrong move. LOOK AT THAT DETACHED EYELASH TOO. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img src="https://c2.staticflickr.com/6/5525/22825684338_9b38efb733_b.jpg" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I was in the bridal car on our way to the church when I asked our assistant for a mirror and discovered the cakey mess that was on my face.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img src="https://c2.staticflickr.com/6/5501/31004071285_b3212842cc_o.jpg" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img src="https://c2.staticflickr.com/6/5697/30916044631_420dc8af1e_b.jpg" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
To make the long story short, I was frowning the entire time in our church videos- even during my walk down the aisle. Nobody knew what was going on except Darie and my coordinator, Tisha. They were both calling this makeup artist left and right (including Tisha's husband) because I needed my face fixed. No ANSWER. I couldn't accept that my guests had better makeup than me. And I COULD'VE DONE MY MAKEUP. I know my face, I have a makeup kit in my bag somewhere, but we had no time (late for church by minutes) and I left my bag at the hotel.<br />
<br />
*EDIT: I slept a good 5.5 hours before my wedding and everyone knows this. I sleep at most 6 hours a day because that's just how I function. I was up by 6 AM because our agreement was to start makeup by 7. This didn't happen, it started at around 9 for me and I was left to wait and eat a platter of fruit while time was being wasted. This is to debunk her claims that I ruined my own makeup because of sleeplessness... Ha! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
She was also supposed to do my mom's makeup as part of the package but SHE DISAPPEARED. A makeup artist named Suzaine did her face and totally redid my makeup before our reception. Suzaine literally saved my face. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Why is it a big deal? Every girl dreams of having the perfect day. I never did, my whole fam is anti-wedding (practical reasons and introverted reasons LOL) but I planned for this thing for months and envisioned a decent look/outfit. <b>We did a successful makeup test days before.</b> She also <b>came in an hour an a half late</b> and doubled the amount of foundation and primer on my wedding day. I knew it couldn't be a perfect event, and as much of a control freak that I am, I accepted that. BUT THIS MAKEUP ARTIST DISAPPEARED. She didn't take our calls, and finally she calls me around 7:30 PM (my reception started at 8 PM) saying that she was "stuck in traffic" and that what happened was "out of her control". Seriously?! She never arrived after that phone call, by the way. Never heard from her after that. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The other reason why I was enraged was because I found out that <b>she quadruple booked me</b>! I talked to 3 other friends who claimed that she also said yes to them during my wedding date but never showed up. Her assistants did their makeup. She fooled me and she fooled my friends.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I have no problems against double-booking. Just make sure you do a good job, say goodbye properly and be honest with your clients! Don't butcher the bride's face, take no accountability and disappear. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I'm tired of typing, I'm tired of this negativity. This post is here to help out other people planning on hiring her. This post was made to help other brides so they may be cautious of who they're hiring. DO NOT TRUST INSTAGRAM PORTFOLIOS. That is a highlight reel. Talk to those she's worked with and you will discover some more horror stories like mine. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>No thanks to my original makeup artist, E.D.</b> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>And thank you to Suzaine for saving my face just in time for our reception:</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
This will probably be my last food photo but that just proves how much we enjoyed their food during our stay! We spent about $700 on snacks, lunch and big dinners for 4 days. (breakfast comes free). We normally eat 5 meals a day so those big meals were pretty worth it. That's $175 a day which is the same amount Darie and I spend for a normal dinner out in New York so it wasn't bad at all for us. </div>

Favorite sunscreen to date, <u><a href="https://www.bcorganicbeauty.com/collections/suntegrity/products/suntegrity-natural-mineral-sunscreen-for-body-spf-30">Suntegrity</a></u> Natural Mineral Sunscreen for Body SPF 30 - an all-organic, vegan sunscreen that totally works! It's just thicker and leaves a white cast but I'd rather have that than spread bad chemicals on my body and leave them in the water for the fish to take in. Really, I recommend this stuff! </div>

Dying to go back to Pangulasian Island after this trip! I literally cried before leaving our beach villa- I miss the fish I greeted each morning and afternoon while snorkeling and kayaking just a few meters outside our room! What I loved most about the resort is that they emphasized how they carried out sustainable practices to preserve and improve the island and its ecosystem. They keep track of the fish they serve and never overfish, they use safe ingredients for their toiletries and laundry, encourage visitors to pick up trash and store non-biodegradable waste in the free bags to take them home, etc. It was the perfect getaway and I highly recommend this place to everyone! I wanna take the family with us next time. They have bigger villas with 6 rooms and I'm excited to be back with the rest of the fam! </div>

<br />
We needed time to de-stress after our wedding reception in Cebu so we planned a mini honeymoon (<i>minimoon </i>or <i>#FakeHoneymoon</i>) immediately after that. We wanted to book a place with good food, beautiful interiors and great service. A lot of people suggested <u><a href="http://www.elnidoresorts.com/pangulasian-island/">Pangalusian Islands by El Nido Resorts</a></u> (their newest one) so we took everyone's advice and set aside a 5-day trip after unloading our things in Manila.<br />
<br />

<a name='more'></a>El Nido Resorts owns the airline company we took to fly to Palawan and there were 2 other passengers with us in the cute plane. It was my first time flying a small propeller plane and it wasn't scary at all! They served snacks before boarding and the stewardess was really nice.<br />
<br />

Wore this outfit to a house inspection this afternoon (we might be purchasing our first house!!!) and my sister decided to snap photos of my "faux grunge" look.</div>

This Parker leather moto jacket is definitely my go-to jacket this fall, paired with these boots that I instantly fell in love with during a trip to my favorite Balenciaga store at SoHo. They're snug so make sure to go half a size up if you're planning to get this pair. Breaking them in a little makes them super comfortable and perfect for every outfit, even long skirts! You all know New Yorkers walk at least 10,000 steps a day, so trust that most (if not all) my boots are made for walking. They're much more beautiful in person - check them out <u><a href="http://cache.net-a-porter.com/images/products/743144/743144_fr_pp.jpg">HERE</a></u> since my photos don't do them justice.<br />
