Christmas 2012 / birthday wish list - beauty edition

While gathering images for my wish list collage this year I slowly realized how much I've been obsessing with sleek and beautifully-packaged [not to mention, PRICEY] makeup. I think if I hadn't been a lifestyle/personal blogger and designer/photographer I would've definitely given makeup artistry a go. Maquillage has always been one of my passions. My appreciation for the craft began when my best friend and I in high school were assigned to be official makeup artists for each school production. Can you imagine the stress we had to go through to slab on layers of color and foundation on each performer while sticking to a super tight budget??? I admit, that the pressure and time constraints we had to work with really taught us how to master the different techniques for each facial feature, especially asymmetrical ones... As well as the different ways lighting and temperature affect certain colors, types of coverage, etc.

We didn't have the luxury and accessibility of good-quality online tutorials when I was in high school, so I'm glad that before shedding cash on anything we can browse through reviews for just about every product nowadays. Nonetheless, we still can't trust all the things posted on the web since the way makeup works for you depends solely on its compatibility with YOUR unique skin-- its type, acidity, undertones, the weather it gets exposed to, etc. (in Filipino, it has to do with how hiyang your skin is with it).

Not all of the things on my list are the priciest ones in the market, but most of these brands I've already grown to love. I like investing in things that won't break or make a monstrous mess inside my purse if I accidentally drop it or bump into things. I also like knowing that I won't get embarrassed of its contents if I ever spill everything out. As much as possible I stick to black, silver or gold packaging (except for my drugstore makeup). Everything has to be neat! I'm just lucky that these products work well for me. Most of the time in cosmetics you get what you pay for if you research enough. You only have one face- invest in good ingredients or else you'll suffer the consequences of those lines and pores showing up too early.

Oh, and I would just like to note that I'm not a total drugstore makeup snob- I have a good balance of high-end and low-end makeup in my kit. Will do an updated list of my everyday makeup essentials soon.

If you have 20 minutes to spare, check out these videos from Lisa Eldridge about vintage makeup. I've always LOVED the way they packaged makeup before- so dainty, chic and fragile! And if you're not familiar with Lisa Eldridge, you have to watch these- she seriously has the most soothing voice among my favorite beauty gurus.

I want new/pretty toys.

blackberry-bold-9900-04
Blackberry bold 9900

I KNOW you all know I'm a sucker for all things Mac. Recently got the iPad 2 and I've been screaming "Team Apple" since forever BUT you can't imagine how many times I've gotten the "What's your BB pin?" question and honestly, I don't think WhatsApp is up to par with the BBM. I want this model since I instantly LOVED its design! I really don't have time to compare the long list of BB models right now, so please tell me if this sucks or what. I don't want the Torch since it's bulky and slide phones have never been my thing... I want something sleek and fast.

Because I know I'll never be CRAZY enough to buy the limited edition titanium Leica M9 for $29000 (or any Leica M series cam for that matter-- I'm too rough on my cameras!),I'll settle for this. It's pretty cool and even if I know I won't be able to change the lens (I don't even change my Lumix GF1's), this would be a pretty awesome pocket camera. The viewfinder and built-in flash is something my Lumix lacks (the flash pops up on the GF1/2) and this has a rangefinder system thing going on... You won't be able to use it properly if you don't know how to use a manual camera, though... There are no intelligent auto settings. I want to be able to practice fixing the settings on a camera again! Whenever I shoot or pick up my DSLR, I keep having to force myself to stay away from my Lumix.

And just look at it... It looks so cool and oldschool! PRETTEH!

Nikon D7000

I'm not a pro, so I'm not touching any of those FX cameras. For now, I can only wish to upgrade my Nikon D80 to this DX camera. Google the specs if you please...

I know you're all going to grill me for saying "Oh please, the camera doesn't matter." But the noise levels and grain once I pump up the ISO's (for clients, not my blog) starting to bug me. I never thought I was going to do a lot of things when I first purchased my D80 way back when I was in first year college. I mean, why would we need a camera in Interior Design? Oh that's right, we don't.

But now that I plan on actually pursuing photography after school, I'm considering investing on a better camera. I have Nikon lenses so it only makes sense to stick to Nikon. I've never had a problem shooting with my D80 and my grandpa was a Nikon guy.

This is priced at $1,200 (body only) but hmmm if I am dead serious about pursuing a phophographyyy why not go for an FX cam like the D700? Priced at $2,700... Hmmm...

GAH I wish I didn't have to earn and pay for my own gadgets. I wish I loved clothes more than gadgets since they're far more expensive, your world will crumble if they get stolen, and unlike clothes, they don't make YOU pretty. HAH..

Okay these are accessories... But...

Why, Nixon? Why???

Christmas/birthday wishlist

Creating a wish list since my birthday falls just a month after Christmas :)

(My size is W8)

2. Rotring technical drawing pens in 0.5, 0.3 and 0.1

3. Manduka Black Mat PRO OR any good quality yoga mats :)
(Manduka mats can be purchased at Certified Calm, Shangri-la Plaza Mall)

4. Travel-sized makeup brushes from Sigma, Beauty Bar, Suesh, Dollface Cosmetics or any other brand!
-I prefer black kits but other colors will do
-nothing too pricey
-should be small brushes that I can place in my everyday bag

5. A really nice ergonomic chair for my office/study room :)
(Hi, mum and dad!!!)

6. Any BLACK makeup bag

Thankfully we can now purchase them locally thanks to Suesh!

8. Goody StayPut slip-proof grip hair bands
For the gym! I may have short hair now, but my bangs can get annoying while running.

I really am the worst at making wish lists... Seriously. But I think these are things I really need and will be able to use every day :)

Oooh, you can also write me a nice letter as usual if you're a true friend ;) Nobody ever does those anymore since buying things can actually be easier for most people. *sigh*

Have fun shopping for the holidays, everyone!

birthday wish list + wants

english cheese with cranberries
get me some from Costco and I'll love you forever ;)
new "eye" ring from Mango- it was the last one. Meant to be for meee! ;)
(I'm not usually drawn to bejeweled rings)
and errr don't mind the lens/image distortion :))

I'm drowning in school work and I just can't wait for the week to end. Was sleepless for the last two days and when I finally got some Zs last night, I just had enough energy to SLEEPWALK and get cereal from the pantry at around 8 PM. I found out about it the next day through my yaya and I sorta wailed cos she didn't stop me. And oh, apparently she heard me sleeptalk, too. I blame it on exhaustion.

The beau is coming to town supposedly for my birthday (Saturday), but his brother's been nominated for eviction from the Big Brother house and he needs to be there in case he gets the lowest number of votes. The plan was to have a private movie screening of When In Rome with some friends at my uncle's office, dinner, then a couple of drinks somewhere. Sadly, he'll have to skip dinner to go to the live eviction night thing. Oh well.

Still thinking of places to go to this Sunday, we might go on a road trip to Tagaytay, or wherever.

Ohhhh posting a birthday wish list for my family *wink wink*

1. Lots of scrunchies / hair ties
I always buy a stash of cheap ones cos I end up losing them after less than 10 uses! I need one everyday for when I draft or work out.

2. A hair brush
Yes, I am the only girl who doesn't have one. I run a comb through my hair with conditioner while in the shower and that's my only hair care routine. I think I need to own a brush now since there are more and more pictures of me popping up with a "confused parting"

3. Makeup bag
Right now I'm using a small plastic pouch that came with my Laura Mercier moisturizer kit, and it's filled with makeup gunk plus it's too small for the new makeup I've purchased.

4. Pilates DVDs

5. Moleskine reporter's journal (soft cover)- if it exists OR a Moleskine soft cover plain journal
I love to sketch or write down just about anything! My old one's falling apart. :(

6. 4 gig SD card
You can never have too many SD cards :))

That's about it! This is sorta a meaningless post... I've been a boring school girl this entire week. Hopefully my birthday weekend will be FUN!

OH WAIT

Some other things that I've been eyeing on...

Yves Saint Laurent platform pumps

I've been wanting YSL pumps since forever but these platforms just made my heart skip a beat. I think I'm the only girl who doesn't own a pair of classic black pumps. For formal school presentations I'd always end up borrowing Issa's black Zara pumps (thank God we have the same shoe size). I'm still waiting to fall in love with a pair that I can afford. Hopefully Zara creates something similar to these YSL babies.

The new Apple iPad

The name has been generating a lot of buzz (malicious ones LOL) and I, too, shed a tear and sent the Apple store an email to notify me of its availability. After tweeting about it a few times and expressing my need/want for it, a few of my twitter friends sent me links about its limitations. I was looking for an SD card slot at first for transferring photos. It doesn't have one but they're selling a camera connection kit accessory, so I was instantly relieved. Then I got word about it not allowing you to multitask *sheesh* plus-get this- NO FLASH! How are we gonna view those awesome flash-based web pages? Sad news for the internet geeks like me.

So far I'm loving the iBook store, photo browsing and supercool iCal (yes, I use the iCal like it's my life line). I wonder if I can install Adobe Photoshop and edit using it? Hmm...

*A lot of people have been pressuring me to take a picture of my shoe collection! I'm doing that once I'm quite finished with all the plates for school. It's gonna take time for me to bring them out of the shoe cabinet and take them upstairs to my study room (slash-studio, hehe) since it's too dark downstairs! Don't expect too much, though. :))

for the love of HD videos

Here's another gadget dilemma.
I've been eyeing on the Flip MinoHD Camcorder and the Nikon Coolpix S70.

Flip MinoHD (60/120 min.) Camcorder

What I love:
  • You don't need a memory card for it. It stores 60/120 minutes of video (8GB internal memory) and all you have to do is use the USB to transfer and upload files to your computer.
  • The sleek chrome or black finish- sooo kickass. It'll match my gunmetal-colored titanium iPhone case.
  • You can also use a photo to design your own cam! But I need a friend to purchase it for me in the States since they won't allow an international billing address for checkout.
What I loathe:
  • Offers only up to 2x digital zoom
  • It's not intended to be a digital camera. No event/party/vain pics.

Nikon Coolpix S70

What I love:
  • HD movie mode- records video clips of important moments in high-definition up to 720p with sound
  • 12.0 megapixels of photo awesomeness
  • Touch screen display! (Tried using it at Best Buy and they made the controls similar to the iPod's)
  • Optical VR image stabilization!
  • Smile shutter and blink warning
  • 5x optical/4x digital/20x total zoom
  • Up to 6400 ISO (even beats my Nikon DSLR!)
  • Skin softening feature (Smoothes skin tone at 3 different levels for great-looking portraits.)
What I loathe:
  • Only has 20MB of internal memory (but that can be fixed with 4GB SD card! lol)
  • It's obviously more expensive than the Flip cam

So yeah, I'm asking for help here.

One reason why I'm considering getting the Flip cam instead of the Nikon is that I already have a Canon Ixus 65 (sorta dying on me cos I have to replace the battery). But I think I need to upgrade my point-and-shoot camera. My iPhone takes pretty clear videos but I can't use up all my memory to record clips and audio. I've been wanting to get the Nikon but the Best Buys at NY and SF ran out of black ones (I didn't want to get a ruby-colored camera).

Message me if you have any (good or bad) reviews about the Flip cam or the Nikon S70, please! AND if you can suggest better (HD) digital cameras for me to consider, send me note as well.

:)

More wants

I REALLY want that puppy, though.
Eversince I cuddled one at Tiendesitas sometime November last year,
I've never forgotten its adorable eyes.

Full-grown Pit Bull Terriers aren't ideal for small apartments!
